During the course of 2020 and 2021, SARA (Seychelles Amateur Radio Association) with Chairman Mr Richard Perks (callsign: S79RP) and his team of volunteers were heavily involved with the establishment of an Amateur Radio Association in Seychelles.
Through hard work, SARA managed to gain acceptance of remote online examinations for Amateur Licenses provided by the RSGB (Radio Society of Great Britain). The successful examination allowed a Certificate of Proficiency to be issued from the United Kingdom and shipped over to Seychelles.
An agreement has been established with the Seychelles Government Department of Information Communication Technology (DICT) to accept ‘the Certificates’ issued by the RSGB and based upon that certificate to permit residents to apply for a local S79 Amateur Radio License.
Application for those licenses is normally permitted with at least one piece of radio equipment on the list. To assist Amateurs with application process and to enter this fantastic hobby, KES together with the sister company in UK (CSL) decided to Donate 10x Two-Way handheld radios.
The radios are well known on the international market, produced by Baofeng and allow 4/5Watts of power transmission on the Amateurs Bands of VHF & UHF.
The Importation and Hand-over procedures were managed by the local club station “SARA” as managing and liaising body supporting this kind donation.
The donation ceremony took place at the SARA Shack, which is located at Roche Caiman kindly hosted by Mr Jaya Nair callsign (S79JKN).
It’s been almost 1 year now since the hand-over ceremony took place and the radio equipment has been utilized up today with the joy of learning and experimentation.

KES continues to support Amateur Radio development in Seychelles and hopefully one day it can be used as a powerful tool to assist in times of a national disaster/emergency event.
