Native South Carolina funnyman Stephen Colbert claimed national attention recently with his presidential 'campaign'. Born in Washington DC, Colbert grew up on James Island in Charleston and was the youngest of eleven children. After the death of his father and two brothers, the family moved to the East Bay Street area of Charleston. He went on to attend Northwestern University and began his comedy career shortly thereafter. Since 2005, Colbert has hosted The Colbert Report; a news show parody. In November of 2007, the South Carolina Democratic Party voted 13-3 to refuse Colbert's application onto the ballot.
